This is a private reference site, not the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, jail, court, or records custodian. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a detainee, post bond, schedule visitation, or retrieve an official booking record. For those actions, use the government office that holds the record.

Where to Ask for Records

For current Lafayette County jail or booking questions, start with the sheriff and detention center. Official sources did not list a separate 24-hour booking desk number or public counter hours, so confirm availability before traveling to Lexington.

Lafayette County's open-records request form says each elected office is custodian of its own records. The county form can route requests to the Sheriff for jail booking records, mugshots, jail logs, or sheriff incident materials; to Circuit Clerk (Courts) for court files; and to Prosecutor for prosecuting-attorney records. Missouri's Sunshine Law response rule generally requires action as soon as possible and no later than the end of the third business day after the correct custodian receives the request, with lawful copy and search fees allowed.

  • For someone believed to be in the county jail, use the sheriff phone above and the guidance on jail inmate records.
  • For a booking photo or booking sheet, use the county open-records form and route the request to the Sheriff; see jail roster mugshots for the limits on public mugshot access.
  • For charges filed after an arrest, search Missouri Case.net manually or route a court-record request to Circuit Clerk (Courts); the Lafayette County courthouse address in the research is 1001 Main St., Lexington, MO 64067, with the county courthouse/header phone listed as 660-259-4315. The process is explained on court records after a jail arrest.
  • For facility-specific information, use the Lafayette County Detention Center page listed in the footer.
  • For a sentenced Missouri prisoner, use the Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Web Search or MODOC Sunshine Law data rather than the county jail.
  • For a federal sentenced inmate or immigration detainee, use the federal BOP inmate locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System instead of local county records.
  • For prosecutor-held records, route the request to the Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney only when the record belongs to that office. The research lists the prosecutor page at lafayettecountymo.gov/services/prosecuting_attorney/; custody status and court dates should go to the jail or court instead.
